Enjoy an evening tour with a difference as you travel from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Selangor for natural entertainment after dark. Take a boat ride through mangroves along the Selangor River, looking out for the thousands of magnificent fireflies that live in the forest.
You’ll also get the chance to see the unusual blue tears phenomenon: marine plankton that emits an eerie blue-green light.Like fireflies, these dinoflagellates – a type of marine algae or plankton – are bioluminescent and emit blue-green light at night, illuminating the water with beautiful aquamarine streaks.

- Mobility-impaired individuals are advised to refrain from this activity.
- Sport shoes or shoes with rubber soles are recommended when visiting.
- Flash photography is strictly prohibited as this may interfere with the fireflies, who communicate by emitting lights from their abdomen.
Visitors may use nets provided to stir up the water so that the bioluminescence is more visible, but are not allowed to bring the “Blue Tears” back.
Opening hours
The 45 to 60-minute boat ride from the Jetty Kuala Selangor is open every evening at 8.00pm, 9.00pm and 10pm.
