Arrive in Ushuaia, often known as the world’s southernmost city. Participants may explore the city or enjoy the surrounding nature of Tierra del Fuego, famous for its forests, glaciers, mountains, wetlands, and hiking trails. In the afternoon, board the expedition vessel at the port. After the mandatory safety drill, the journey begins as the ship navigates the famous Beagle Channel, named after the ship of Charles Darwin. While sailing, keep watch for whales and dolphins before entering the legendary Drake Passage.
During the following days at sea, the expedition continues across the Drake Passage, where strong winds known as the “Roaring Fifties” often create dramatic ocean conditions. Expedition leaders will conduct safety briefings and environmental guidelines to prepare guests for Antarctica. Educational lectures will also be held about Antarctic wildlife, exploration history, and environmental protection. On the third day, the ship crosses the Antarctic Convergence, where colder Antarctic waters begin. This region is rich in marine life and sightings may include petrels, albatrosses, seals, whales, and penguins. Weather permitting, the expedition may begin exploration of the South Shetland Islands.
The expedition continues south along the Antarctic Peninsula, particularly within the scenic Gerlache Strait. The expedition leader and captain will carefully plan daily routes depending on weather and ice conditions. The region offers many iconic Antarctic experiences including Zodiac boat cruises in Paradise Bay, observing penguin colonies on Cuverville Island, and visiting historic exploration huts at Damoy Point.
Guests may also witness humpback whales feeding in Wilhelmina Bay and admire the dramatic scenery of the Lemaire Channel. Each landing and cruise reveals the extraordinary wildlife, natural landscapes, and history that make Antarctica unique. When not exploring ashore, guests can attend lectures, relax in onboard lounges, enjoy spa facilities, or observe the Antarctic scenery from the ship.
The journey continues in the South Shetland Islands, the northernmost region of Antarctica. Despite harsh weather conditions, these islands host abundant wildlife including Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins as well as seabirds such as Giant Petrels.
The landscapes are dominated by icy peaks such as those on Livingston Island, Greenwich Island, and King George Island. Possible exploration sites include the volcanic crater of Deception Island, penguin colonies on Aitcho Islands and Half Moon Island, and the historic Yankee Harbour.
The expedition eventually leaves Antarctica and begins the return journey north across the Drake Passage toward Ushuaia. During the voyage, guests may participate in onboard activities, lectures, and discussions with the expedition team while reflecting on their Antarctic adventure.
Passengers may relax in the Nordic Bar, attend educational presentations in the Shackleton Lounge, or simply watch albatrosses gliding alongside the ship. On the final evening onboard, a farewell gathering will be hosted by the captain and crew along with a presentation of photos and videos capturing the expedition’s highlights.
